This morning I woke with my phone full of messages of hate and incitement. I quickly reached out to a few people I know across the country to say “hey, it’s time to speak up”.
Let me first start by saying this, my name is “Chukwuneme Mohammed Dikko Olayimika Dienbo Nwachukwu”. Yes this is my real name and as you can see I have ties, blood ties, to every part of this country. I am the child of an Igbo/Hausa father and a Yoruba/Kalabari mother. I have relatives, first cousins, brothers and sisters from every nook and cranny of this country. Muslim, Christian and even some who are traditionalist. I have spent time in every part of this country, growing up in Kaduna and Lagos, plus working in Abia and Abuja.
The Nigeria we love is being ripped apart by tribal and religious sentiment. Where do I go? Where do the many of us who believe in Nigeria go? It is time to speak up!
When I think about those who fan the flame of discord, I can count them. However when I think of the people who want peace, order and the ability to provide for their families, we are in the millions. Why are we allowing them to win? Why are we burying our heads in the sand? It is time to speak up!
We must win back the narrative from those who choose to divide us. We that believe we can make this country work must stand up and speak. We cannot wait only for our religious and elected leaders to speak. We all have a voice and that voice must be heard. It is time to speak up!
What is at stake is far greater than all of us. The loss is far greater than the win when we start to put ourselves in boxes. Let me ask this, I want to know in which region or tribe in this country that the good tenets of human behavior is seen as bad? Is it not right to love your neighbor? Is it not right to honour your parents? Where is it ok to steal or kill? I think we all know the answers. It is time to speak up!
My people, amongst us we have good people and we have bad people. Truth is the good always outweigh the bad but for some reason the bad always get the headlines. Enough! We that believe that this country is for all us, we that believe that together we are stronger, we that believe that it is time to build a fairer Nigeria, for the many and not the few, it is time to speak up!
This doesn’t just end here on Facebook or social media. A movement is being born that must address this and I call on all well meaning Nigerians to join this movement for peace and equality without prejudice. We know what to do, let us collectively come together and put a stop to the madness! It is time to speak up!

Your father is a murderer of “his” people, a thief of “his” people and snake hidden in the grass because we see his last name and think he’s kin. Funny how during the war he was Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu and when accepting governorships and senatorial seats he’s simply Ike Nwachukwu. You are no different, not falling far from the tree… he taught you well.
You drop names from every corner of the country to prove what exactly?
That you’re a true Nigerian? … because you have relatives that span the length and breadth of the country?
A true Nigerian is one from any part of the country who sees another from any corner of this country as a fellow human being and can show love and respect. We have many of those left and I’m proud to know a few.
Bless you for being born a multi-ethnic Nigerian, with no real ties to any part and ties to all of the country simultaneously… but where is the compassion for your countrymen and women who have suffered with the policies that were instigated by your father, in Imo State, and his ilk across the country?
Don’t you see that they’ve always been the problem?
Or we shouldn’t make it personal?
But how can’t we?
This is my country… it is personal!
Yes you are multi-ethnic and proud of it, just like your father when it suits him, Smart man. And like earlier stated… he taught you well.
I am 100% Igbo and the atrocities of your father’s “true kin” remain on Nigeria we see today.
One may say I’m taking the argument back to the war and that we should get over it; but until Nigerians realise that the current state of the nation is the result of the lack of respect for life that pervades the country and until the pin drops that this lack of respect for human life was exposed and laid bare during the genocidal Nigerian-Biafran War, we’ll just continue chasing our tails.
When such a lack of respect for human life and decency is exposed and the perpetrators; such as your father, are still walking this earth freely and denying the knowledge of the events to the populace in order to keep them ignorant… how can there ever be progress?
I’m sure your father has told you stories of what happened in Asaba, and I wonder whether he was the only one with clean hands through it all in those tales he told. Where’s the fly on the wall?
I accept it is time for a new Nigeria, but it starts with healing old Nigeria, and it will never heal with people like your father still at the helm of affairs. I don’t only mean Ike Omar Sambo Nwachukwu, I mean him and all of his cronies; and I choose not to speculate, but I question the source of the capital you used to start your airline.
Don’t worry, I am not trying to tear a fellow Igbo man down, because you’re not truly Igbo are you… more like an eighth, maybe a quarter at best, and you continue to dilute the Igbo in your lineage… is that how ashamed you are of your heritage? But not trying to tear down a fellow Nigerian; at least you invested the questionable capital in Nigeria as opposed to resorting to the capital flight seen on a regular basis.
It’s very saddening writing this to you in response to your clarion call for change, and I do pray there is change and I do wish you the best in all your endeavours, but facts are facts and I may not have all of them, but we’ll keep on learning. Your father and his people should come in and make it clear so that the country may heal and progress… when I say your father, I reiterate that I don’t mean him alone… they should drop the guilty conscience they bear and set the record straight. If he doesn’t you may need to man to man up and do so on his behalf when his time here is up… heaven or hell… where do you think he’s headed?
I saw pictures and you look just like he did during the war. You should take a walk through Asaba sometime… just for the sake of it and try to envisage the carnage your father along with is buddy ( Lagos Int’l Airport) brought upon peaceful people. But why would you when you can just fly over instead? #jetwest
